I am running for re-election to the Rochester School Board because I believe this is an exciting time to be part of Rochester Public Schools, even though there continue to be many operational and financial challenges in providing public education, and our students, educators, and families continue to face barriers along the pathways to success. I want to continue to use my voice to champion the needs of all students and to respect and support educators, and use my vote to support strategies, plans, resources and people that will improve student outcomes and prepare students for long-term success.
Students and educators deserve safe schools where they are respected and feel like they belong. I rededicate myself to ensuring our students and staff have the resources they need to center empathy, inclusion and belonging in our educational spaces. I will persistently advocate for resources to address the social and emotional needs of our students and educators, including increased mental health supports.
We owe all students access to and the opportunity to participate in high quality learning experiences that build knowledge and skills for success in school and beyond. We can achieve this by creating welcoming learning environments for all, addressing the unique learning needs and characteristics of each student, and supporting educators with resources that address our diverse community of learners. I will continue to support strategies designed to measurably improve student outcomes, and provide oversight to the implementation of curriculum, learning standards, teaching strategies, and student supports so that we reach our RPS improvement targets
RPS must continue to engage students and staff in the design and implementation of District strategies, and improve our efforts to welcome and empower all families as partners in the education of their children. We also rely on communication and collaboration with our community to support and improve our schools and programs. I will continue to ensure that all RPS stakeholders have input into school board decision-making and multiple ways to provide feedback on our decisions, strategies and plans. In all of the conversations ahead, whether we agree or disagree, I promise to always listen, extend grace and respect, and assume positive intent.
My actions as a school board member the past two terms demonstrate my commitment to accountability, monitoring and oversight. I always make decisions only after having reviewed detailed data and credible information and answers to questions. I will continue to require that all plans and recommendations to the board include goals, metrics, and milestones to ensure our efforts achieve our desired outcomes within budgets and timelines.
